Starguider dual ed11/25/2023 ![]() ![]() With up to six lens elements in this unique design, these eyepieces are fully internally baffled and all internal spacers have antireflection microbaffles on their edges with flat black anodizing to reduce reflections. Sharpness, Great Contrast and Flat Field of View: The nicely machined body is rubberized and scalloped grooves around the circumference at the top provide a secure grip in all conditions. Even the 5mm eyepiece has almost 16mm of eye relief! Experienced observers will truly appreciate such generous eye relief at significant magnifications. Our eyepiece eye relief averages around 18mm and is as much as 20mm in the 25mm focal length model. What they don't have is the limited eye relief and restricted fields. But even these designs can be improved upon for lunar and planetary use.Īgena's StarGuider Dual ED eyepieces are the first long eye relief eyepieces with a comfortably wide field for planetary observing that also give the sharpness, contrast, and lack of lateral color and light scatter of the best orthoscopic and Plossl designs. A high quality orthoscopic or Plossl eyepiece on a good telescope gives views of Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn that can be breathtaking. Their low number of lenses (typically four) and air-to-glass surfaces give better contrast and definition than the more exotic extra wide field eyepieces. Orthoscopic and Plossl eyepieces have traditionally been the designs of choice for lunar, planetary, and binary star/star cluster observations. Our 60 degree eyepieces provide high contrast, no scattered light, and the highest possible definition.Īgena Eyepieces - Rooted in Solid Design: These objects don't need an extra-wide field of view to see small details and subtle contrast differences. Light scatter and lateral color are rarely seen in very wide field eyepieces when observing faint deep sky objects, but they become very apparent when viewing lunar, planetary, and double star objects. ![]() Another issue is light scatter seen as a distracting halo or glow around bright objects. This results when different wavelengths (colors) of light pass through the eyepieces focal plane at different points and appear as a cloud of false color around bright objects. One such issue of all that glass is lateral color aberration. Extra lenses can also mean compromises in the overall design that can often lead to other issues. That also means there are more air-to-glass surfaces that can scatter light - reducing contrast and sometimes causing multiple reflections (ghosting) when viewing very bright objects such as the Moon and planets. More lenses mean more cost and more glass, which attenuates the amount of light you see. Premium (and costly!) eyepieces that have similar wide fields of view need many exotic glass elements to achieve that wide field of view - as many as 9 lenses or more. ![]() The eyepieces are parfocal, minimizing the amount of refocusing needed when switching from eyepiece to eyepiece within the series.Īgena Dual ED Eyepieces vs. A great value, these eyepieces are exceptional at nearly eliminating lateral color aberration and light scatter often associated with more expensive eyepieces that are better suited for deep space objects. This feature is especially useful for telescopes without tracking capability where the object drifts across the field of view during observation. Normal distributions can differ in their means and in their standard deviations. Strictly speaking, it is not correct to talk about “the normal distribution” since there are many normal distributions. The normal distribution is commonly observed in data collected in the real world, as we have already seen in Chapter 3 - and in chapter 7 we will learn more about why this occurs. The bell-like shape of the distribution never changes, only its location and width. The normal distribution is described in terms of two parameters: the mean (which you can think of as the location of the peak), and the standard distribution (which specifies the width of the distribution). Let’s review a little bit about the normal distribution. ![]() It is also called the “Gaussian curve” of Gaussian distribution after the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. It is sometimes called the “bell curve,” although the tonal qualities of such a bell would be less than pleasing. The normal distribution is the most important and most widely used distribution in statistics. If your percentile rank on a test of verbal ability were 40, for example, this would mean that you scored higher than 40% of the people who took the test. Percentile ranks are often used to report the results of standardized tests of ability or achievement. Remember that percentile rank by counting the number of scores in the distribution that are lower than that score and converting that number to a percentage of the total number of scores (32/40 = 80%). It can also be said that they scored at the 80th percentile. Thus, for students with a score of 23, they have a percentile rank of 80 percent. In this distribution, 32 of the 40 scores (80%) are lower than 23 (note that you can see for score 22 showing cumulative frequency as 32). Notice, for example, that five of the students represented by the data in the table had self-esteem scores of 23. Frequency table for Rosenburg self-esteem scores For any score in the distribution, we can find its percentile rank by counting the number of scores in the distribution that are lower than that score and converting that number to a percentage of the total number of scores. Percentiles are useful for comparing values.Ĭonsider, for example, the distribution of Rosenberg Self-esteem scores we used in chapter 2. The percentile rank of a score is the percentage of scores in the distribution that are lower than that score. In many situations, it is useful to have a way to describe the location of an individual score within its distribution. Moving forward, we now turn our attention to how scores within a distribution are related to one another, how to precisely describe a score’s location within the distribution, and how to compare scores from different distributions. These simple tools, and the principles behind them, will help you interpret information presented to you and understand the basics of a variable. We now understand how to describe and present our data visually and numerically. ![]() Desk yoga for neck and shoulders11/25/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() With work and life now somewhat combined, we have become one with our laptops and desks. To learn more about the different cocking methods available and what their pro’s and con’s are, take a moment to read our main crossbow guide – particularly the section on cocking your crossbow. If getting a crossbow with more than 200 draw weight, consider getting a crank aid, which makes the cocking process pretty much effortless. Also, you’ll likely be cocking it repeatedly in a row (though not always), in which case it can get tiring without some sort of assistance. You may be able to easily dead-lift 200 pounds, however consider that when cocking a crossbow the string will be digging quite deeply into your palms. No matter how strong you think you are, I strongly recommend getting a rope cocking aid, if the crossbow package you choose does not already include one. Cocking The Crossbow Properly Is Important If uncertain, just check out our reviews. These elements are pretty much a given though with the majority of modern crossbows made by respected manufacturers. Of course, there are other important factors to consider, such as how comfortable the crossbow is to hold, how consistent its accuracy is (this depends on string, limb, and rail quality), not to mention trigger action. The models compared above all have dependable cocking and latching action.
